Ex-England ace reveals moment he thought he fall victim to reality TV ‘curse’

Peter Crouch has revealed he did not want his wife to partner a "handsome man" when she signed up for Strictly Come Dancing.

The former England striker, who is plying his trade with Stoke in the Championship, saw wife Abbey Clancy dance her way to the prestigious Glitter Ball back in 2013.

But he has admitted he was seriously concerned that his marriage would fall victim to the BBC show’s ‘curse’.

A host of stars who have appeared on the show have found romance with their dance partners.

Just this week, comedian Seann Walsh and his opposite number Katya Jones were rumbled by a kissing exposé.

And Crouch, speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show screened on ITV1 this Saturday, has spoken for the first time about his fears that wife Abbey might be charmed when she was paired up with Aljaz Skorjanec.

To Crouch’s delight, however, he had nothing to worry about as he paid tribute to the dancer.

"I was apprehensive when Abbey signed up," he said.

"I was like: ‘Don’t get the handsome one.’ And then Aljaz came out.

"But he was great and, fair play to him, he come over to me and he loved football so we got on really well."

Reflecting on wife Abbey’s triumph five years ago, Crouch added: "I didn’t know she had it in her.

"I’ve seen her breakdancing in the kitchen after a few wines, but I’ve never seen her dance so elegantly."
