Country legend Garth Brooks will be honored with the inaugural George H.W. Bush Points of Light Award in recognition of his caring and compassion.
Points of Light, a global non-profit dedicated to accelerating people-powered change, is giving the award to honor outstanding individuals who advance solutions to the world’s toughest challenges and exemplify the extraordinary traits of its late founder, President George H.W. Bush.
The award will be presented to Brooks at a ceremony to be held on September 26, at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City.
“Garth is one of our generation’s true singer and songwriter legends – but what many people aren’t aware of, is Garth’s commitment and passion for creating viable change in communities across America,” said Neil Bush, chairman of Points of Light.
Brooks is the co-founder of the Teammates for Kids Foundation, which is funded by professional athletes who generously donate to children’s charities, focusing on children’s health, education and inner-city outreach, and through building Child Life Zones, supporting youth athletic programs.
The singer-songwriter is popular for his integration of rock and pop elements into the country genre.
