Gemma Atkinson, 34, admitted she was “so pleased” to hear that service animal abuse are now officially recognised in UK law. The former Emmerdale star uploaded a snap of Britain’s Got Talent contestant PC Dave Wardell and his faithful pooch Finn, and wrote in view of her one million followers: “I am SO pleased to hear this! “The Queen has signed off on Finn’s Law which means from the 8th June service animals are properly recognised in UK law and sentences for abuse of animals will be increased. FINALLY!!!” Gemma said. She continued: “I’ve had the pleasure of meeting both PC Dave Wardell and the Gorgeous Finn and their story is remarkable. Thank you to everyone who’s supported them. Next, lets get the sentences increased for ALL animal abusers.”
Her tribute post comes after Dave was left in tears during Sunday night’s live final of Britain’s Got Talent, after he announced the news that Finn’s Law will be implemented into UK law.
The police officer has been campaigning with Finn for greater protection to service animals after his dog nearly died while stopping a suspect with a knife.
The talent show finalists wowed the judges and viewers with an incredible routine which showcased their magical powers of telepathy.
At the end of the performance, Dave said: “After our first audition aired the Queen stayed up late one night and she signed off on Finn’s Law. So on June 8, Saturday next week, Finn’s Law becomes a law.”
Finn made a miraculous recovery following the incident but has since retired from his service duties.
Fans rushed to comment on Gemma’s post, as one person wrote: “This is just brilliant, I’ve supported them all the way through Britain’s Got Talent, so pleased to hear Finns law is happening, finally! Amazing story and a amazing dog. I’m with you all the way, I’m a dog lover too!!! Wishing you well Gemma.”

Another person said: “About time, wonderful news,” while a third person added: “Yay! What they deserve.”
Gemma, who is a known dog lover and has two pooches: Ollie and Norman, has been outspoken in the past about animal abuse, including dog owners who involve them with illegal dog fighting.
Earlier this year, she fumed on the picture-sharing site: “Saddens me to hear about the amount of illegal dog fighting here in the UK.
“If you are a human, and you take pleasure in seeing these dogs suffer, you’re an a******* and I hope that one day you have the balls to take your issues out on some one who can fight back fairly.
“But then again you wouldn’t dare, because people like you are all cowards.”
Meanwhile, the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant and her beau Gorka Marquez are currently making preparations to welcome their first baby together.
Back in February, the couple took to their respective social media pages to announce they were expecting.
Norman and Ollie were seen with small signs around their necks, which read: “Guess what… mum’s pregnant! We’re going to be big brothers.”
Gemma captioned it: “And what amazing big brothers they will be!
“Myself & Gorks are beyond excited and happy and feel incredibly blessed to be meeting our new family member later this year.”
