James Martin: ‘It was just a question!’ ITV chef in awkward moment with Bananarama – VIDEO

James Martin, 46, showcased his culinary skills once again on his self-titled ITV show this morning, where stars Sara Dallin,57, and Keren Woodward, 58, of Bananarama joined him, but things took what appeared to be an awkward turn. As the TV chef began explaining to viewers how he bakes a pie from scratch, he prompted the former roll to out the pastry for him before putting it into the oven. James said: “If you can roll it out for me,” as he pointed to the dough placed on the worktop. The singer asked: “With this?” referring to a rolling pin.

The small-screen chef chuckled and replied: “Yes Sara, with the rolling pin. That’s the one.”

As she picked up the cooking utensil, she proceeded to cover the rolling pin with flour before James interjected: “You don’t need to do that. You learnt that when you were at school.”

He then took the pin and began to roll out the dough, as he explained what she needed to do.

The ITV star explained: “When you roll it, part it like that,” before Sara abruptly interjected: “Yes, I know! Thank you.”

Her bandmate Keren added: “We took cooking classes together at school.”

James said: “Oh… you took cookery classes together. Alright, we’re going to see how hilarious it is,” before adding: “So I’m going to leave you to your own devices.”

Sara then asked: “How thin does it need to be?” as she continued to roll the pastry.

The TV star quipped: “Don’t worry about me, you know what you’re doing,” before he chuckled and replied: “Nice and thin Sara.”

It seemingly appeared the awkward exchanges between the popstars and the TV chef did not stop there, after Keren asked a question during the pie-making segment.

While putting the pastry into a tin, James explained: “What we’re going to do is line the pastry. You can buy it if you want.

“You just press it all down like this. Make sure it’s nice and thin. You can put it with a little bit of grease paper, fill it with baking beans if you want, fill it with flour and we end up with that.”

“Then what we’re going to do is take our asparagus. I’m going to chop this straight through there.”

Keren asked: ”Do people do that sort of breaking thing, where you snap it,” as she referred to people snapping the asparagus with their hands.

James replied: “No,” before she said: “I’ve seen people do it.”

Before his co-star, chef Toby Tobin replied: “No, it’s not the way to do it.”

Seemingly taken aback by their comments, Keren said: “OK… I was just asking,” before looking down in shock.

She added: “It was just a question!”

James Martin’s Saturday Morning airs Saturdays on ITV at 9.30am.
