Love Island EXCLUSIVE: ‘She’s not fake OR fame-hungry’: Lucie’s MUM slams star’s ‘nasty’ ex Charlie and claims he ended six-month romance because he didn’t want to be faithful
When Lucie Donlan entered the Love Island villa on Monday, her ex boyfriend Charlie Frederick branded her ‘fame hungry’ and said she ‘isn’t really looking for love.’
But the 21-year-old’s mother Celly has hit back at the male model, who appeared on the show briefly last year, saying that he’s completely in the wrong.
Celly said: ‘Charlie’s interview was completely wrong. He said that it was just a very quick holiday romance, but in actual fact it was a proper relationship for six months.

‘Charlie was part of our family. He’d come to see us every weekend and we even went on holiday together. Lucie is not in it for fame at all.
‘I mean, who wouldn’t want to be in the villa and have some fun? She’s wanted to do it for a long time but she’s not fame hungry or anything.
She continued: ‘Charlie’s interview wasn’t great. We took him in as part of the family and grew very fond of him.
She’s not impressed: Charlie had warned islanders off his ex Lucie (pictured) as he claimed she is NOT looking for love and used his name for fame

‘Myself and Lucie’s dad, Andy, were shocked when they split up and I was very upset.’
Celly claimed that Charlie did pretty well financially out of the pretty blonde surfer during their romance.
And there are pictures and videos of the former couple together on Lucie’s highlights on social media.
She said: ‘We had all gone on holiday together. Lucie had an all expenses paid trip to Fuerteventura for work. They were going to do pictures and videos of her surfing.
Remember? Last year, fans were outraged when Charlie wasn’t given time to shine on Love Island as he was booted out of the villa alongside Hayley Hughes (July 2018)
‘She asked if Charlie could come too, and they upgraded the villa for him. He had a free holiday from her as well!
‘Fuerteventura was somewhere we go every year as a family anyway, so we joined them out there for a couple of weeks.
‘It was me and Andy, Lucie and Charlie, and Lucie’s sister Emily and her boyfriend. It was last October.

‘I don’t know why Charlie has started being so nasty. He got together with Lucie as soon as he got out of the Love Island villa. The first thing he said to her was “I can’t believe somebody hasn’t snapped you up yet”.
‘But then he moved to London and I think one of his friends told him that he could have had loads of women falling at his feet. He decided he didn’t want to be tied down.’
Celly said it’s unusual for her daughter to end things on bad terms with her boyfriends.
She added: ‘I don’t know why Charlie has started being so nasty. He got together with Lucie as soon as he got out of the Love Island villa’ but claimed he didn’t want to be ‘tied down’
She asserted: ‘Lucie never splits with her boyfriends badly. It always just fizzles out.
‘What happened with Charlie was that he took a girl out for lunch and told Lucie in advance. He said it was a girl he had known for years. Lucie isn’t the jealous type and she wasn’t worried about it.
‘But the next thing she knew, she saw the girl and she turned out to be an exotic dancer. I thought, oh my god. She wasn’t the sort of person who you want your boyfriend to go to lunch with!
‘That girl made a big thing about meeting Charlie on her social media. She put hearts on it and everything. It really upset Lucie. She and Charlie drifted apart after that.’
Lucky: Celly said Charlie got to go on free holidays with Lucie due to her modelling work
Celly admitted she had a soft spot for Charlie and he had previously treated her daughter well.
She said: ‘Lucie also just couldn’t afford to keep going to see Charlie in London. But when they were going out, he was wonderful to her.
‘When Lucie was in Jamaica for 66 Magazine, he came to see us without her because he missed her and he missed us so much.
‘He spent the afternoon surfing with Andy, Lucie’s dad. But then one of his mates said, “come on mate, you’re missing out here being faithful to Lucie”.
‘It’s really unfair that Charlie denied the relationship when he asked her to be his girlfriend and she was, for five or so months.
‘At the end of July they went to Portugal together for a week, then when she came back from Jamaica he asked her formally to be his girlfriend.
The calm before the storm: Celly admitted she had a soft spot for Charlie and he had previously treated her daughter well
‘He would go surfing with Andy. He stayed with us and we fed him. He even used Lucie’s room while she was away and I used to do his washing and everything.’
Celly claimed that Lucie had met Charlie’s family and really got on well with them.
She said: ‘Lucie met his mum and dad and went to stay with his dad in Plymouth a couple of times. She really liked his mum. She met his sister as well. Charlie is very close to his sister.
‘Lucie really liked Charlie. They were both into surfing. They had a great time on holiday together. If you look at her Instagram TV, you’ll see Charlie and Lucie on holiday together and you’ll get the vibe of their relationship.
‘She has had a few relationships but they have always been very good ones. Not quick ones, just lovely relationships. She’s not the sort to sleep around.
‘She doesn’t smoke and she doesn’t drink very much, either. She always prefers orange juice. She’s very clean living.’
Celly admitted she is surprised by her daughter’s rise in fame.
She said: ‘I never thought she’d be a star when she was growing up. I always thought she’d become a surf instructor or working elsewhere in the surfing industry. I never dreamed that she’d become a model.
‘She is very good with people, so I thought that maybe she’d be selling surfboards. I never thought her modelling would take off as it did.
‘It was lovely seeing her on TV. I have no idea if she will win. I hope she does. She deserves it.’
