The song, which was meant to address anti-LGBT demonstrators and their ilk, received an amount of flack since the video for the song also featured a ‘make-up moment’ for long-feuding stars Taylor and her contemporary, Katy Perry, who appear hugging in silly costumes at the end.
Detractors were annoyed that Taylor would use an opportunity to address an important social issue as the place to also right a personal, unrelated wrong.
Nonetheless, the song has been well-received, getting regular airplay on the radio.
The video is also up for nine MTV Video Music Awards, where Taylor is slated to perform on Monday night.
