A married couple from Long Island adopted several pooches only to viciously beat them — leaving two dead and another fighting for her life, according to prosecutors.
Jessica Kuncman and Ellie Knoller were charged by Nassau County prosecutors with torturing three dogs within days of bringing them home.
Prosecutors said Wednesday that the pair adopted the first pup, a male Shepherd mix named Tucker, on Feb. 8 from an animal adoption agency — but just over a week later the new pet died from a kidney rupture.
They then purchased a Goldendoodle named Cooper from a Pennsylvania breeder and that dog also suffered a similar fate — dying from abuse in the couple’s care, officials said.
The couple’s third dog — the lone surviving one — was allegedly choked, beaten and suffered several broken bones. The pup named Bella was left with broken ribs, a forearm fractured in two places and a pulmonary contusion, according to prosecutors.
“It’s a miracle this little girl is alive and recovering. Two other dogs were not so lucky,” Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas said in a press release.
Knoller was charged Wednesday with aggravated cruelty to animals while his wife faces misdemeanor counts of torturing and injuring animals.
