The Archbishop of Canterbury – who will officiate the royal wedding this weekend – has been calming his nerves with a healthy dose of hip-hop.
The Most Rev. Justin Welby told the BBC he’s been playing the song “Blinded by Your Grace” by UK rapper and grime artist Stormzy on repeat — in anticipation of the Saturday ceremony at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
“There’s a line in it that’s, ‘I stay prayed up and get the job done,’ I think that sort of sums it up,” the 62-year-old said.
The archbishop, the most senior figure in the Church of England after the Queen, has admitted he’s afraid he might drop the ring while officiating Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding.
“I’m always nervous at weddings because it’s an important day for the couple,” he said. “I’ve made a couple of crack-handed mistakes over the last couple of weddings I’ve been involved in and I’m thinking this is probably not a good moment to make it a hat-trick.”
In March, Welby baptized the bride-to-be in a secret 45-minute service, bringing the 36-year-old actress into the Anglican faith. The two struck up a friendship and he described the ceremony as “beautiful” and “very special.”
