Back in March, TV Tonight reported that Fremantle was producing the show for a hotly anticipated comeback.

The series ran for seven seasons and followed the lives of the students of Hartley High in a multicultural suburb of Sydney.

It was a trailblazing show that dealt with topical subjects of sex, drugs, racism, religion, family, education and homelessness among its many plot lines.

It starred a who’s who of Australian talent, including Ada Nicodemou, Alex Dimitriades, Salvatore Coco, Scott Major and Callan Mulvey.

Heartbreak High was first aired on Channel 10 from 1994 to 1996 before it was moved to the ABC from 1997 until it was axed in 1999.

Last year, former Heartbreak High star Salvatore Coco talked about a possibility of a reboot.

He told The Morning Show hosts he would be interested in taking part but doesn’t know who could possibly ‘make it happen’.

‘If there’s anyone out there that is willing to do it and fund it, let’s do it,’ he added.

He also suggested that a good way to bring the cast back would be to make a new series in which the old characters have children of their own attending Hartley High.
