The ex-husband of Real Housewives of New Jersey star Dina Manzo has been arrested for hiring a Mafia mobster to assault her now-husband in exchange for a heavily discounted wedding reception, federal prosecutors say.

Thomas Manzo, 55, was charged on Tuesday for allegedly hiring Lucchese crime family John Perna to assault his ex-wife’s then-boyfriend back in July 2015.

Both Manzo and Perna have been charged with conspiracy and committing a violent crime in aid of racketeering activity.

Prosecutors say Perna and an associate attacked Dina’s boyfriend David Cantin with a slap jack in the parking lot of a New Jersey strip mall at Manzo’s request.

The attack left Cantin with a permanent facial scar, authorities said.

Manzo was angry Dina, who appeared in the RHONJ’s first two seasons, had moved in with her new boyfriend after they had separated, prosecutors say. Manzo and Dina were married for seven years before separating in 2012 and finalizing their divorce in 2016.

Charges: Dina Manzo’s ex-husband Thomas Manzo was charged on Tuesday for allegedly hiring a Mafia mobster to attack her now-husband back in 2015

Prosecutors say Manzo was angry Dina (pictured together), who appeared in the RHONJ’s first two seasons, had moved in with her new boyfriend after they had separated. Manzo and Dina were married for seven years before separating in 2012 and finalizing their divorce in 2016

Prosecutors say Manzo gave Perna personal information about his ex-wife’s boyfriend, including his residence and business addresses and details on his vehicle, in a bid to help track Cantin down.

In exchange for carrying out the attack, prosecutors say Manzo allowed Perna to host a lavish wedding reception at his event venue in Paterson, New Jersey for a fraction of the price.

Manzo co-owns the lavish Brownstone venue with his brother Albert. The venue appeared in episodes of the RHONJ when Dina was on the show.

The wedding Perna held was paid for by another Lucchese associate and close friend of Manzo’s.

The wedding and reception, which was held in August 2015, was attended by approximately 330 people and included many members of the Lucchese crime family, prosecutors allege.

In addition to arranging the alleged assault, Manzo is also accused of falsifying and concealing records when federal authorities investigating the assault subpoenaed the venue for documents related to the wedding.

Manzo failed to turn over relevant documents in response to those subpoenas and deliberately submitted a false document regarding the reception, the indictment says.

FBI agents raided the venue in November last year and seized invoices for the wedding reception, as well as other relevant documents, that were not previously turned over.

Prosecutors say Perna and an associate attacked Dina’s boyfriend David Cantin with a slap jack in the parking lot of a New Jersey strip mall at Manzo’s request. Cantin and Dina married in secret in 2017

Both Manzo and Perna were arrested on Tuesday and made initial court appearances later in the day via videoconferencing.

They were both charged with committing a violent crime in aid of racketeering activity and conspiracy to commit a violent crime in aid of racketeering activity.

Perna was also charged with conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud related to the submission of a false car insurance claim.

Manzo’s attorney, Michael Critchley, said his client is ‘absolutely innocent, and the allegations more resemble a fictionalized plot of a reality TV show, and will be proven to be nothing more than that.’

In a separate incident in 2017, Dina and David were attacked in a home invasion. James Mainello (pictured) faces 10 charges related to the attack

An attorney representing Perna didn’t return an email message Tuesday.

Both Manzo and Perna face up to 20 years in prison on the most serious of the charges against them.

The 2015 assault on Dina’s then-boyfriend was separate to the home invasion they both endured in 2017.

The couple, who wed in 2017, arrived home at about 11pm in May 2017 to find masked burglars in their home.

They were confronted by the men who punched Dina and beat Dave with a baseball bat before tying them up together.

After ransacking the three-bedroom property, the thieves fled with $500 and Manzo’s engagement ring worth $60,000.

Dina and Dave were then able to break free and call police.

James Mainello faces 10 charges related to that attack.

Dina starred in seasons one, two, and six of Real Housewives of New Jersey and also appeared as a guest in season four.

The reality star has daughter Lexi, 22, with her ex-husband Tommy. The two divorced in 2016, four years after they separated.

She is close friends with former co-star Teresa Giudice and is the godmother of her daughter Audriana.
