Harrison Ford talks speaking about environment at the UN with world leaders and how he’s given up eating meat for the cause

Harrison Ford looks to be doing what he can to help Mother Earth.

The Hollywood icon, 77, appearing on Tuesday’s edition of Ellen, goes into detail about delivering his speech to save the Amazon rain forest last fall at the UN Climate Action Summit.

Asked if he was nervous about doing the speech, the Oscar-nominated actor replied, ‘Not until I [got] there – I don’t have enough sense to be.’

The star of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones anthologies recalled his experience at the September summit.

‘I was in this room, I was on a dais … and everybody else was a head of state and I thought, “Oh man they made some big mistake here,”‘ Ford said. ‘But then they let me talk about what I wanted to talk about – which is the environment.’

The actor, who’s married to Ally McBeal actress Calista Flockhart, encouraged his fans to take more actions toward the cause.

‘We all gotta do it – we gotta start talking about it, we gotta start doing it and we gotta insist that out elected officials do it,’ Ford said.

VIPs: Ford appeared alongside world leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron and the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel last fall at the UN

Standing up for his beliefs: Ford said the UN ‘let me talk about what I wanted to talk about – which is the environment’

Setting the tone: Ford said of environmental efforts, ‘We all gotta do it – we gotta start talking about it, we gotta start doing it and we gotta insist that out elected officials do it’

Elsewhere on the show, Ellen showed him a shot that was snapped of him looking fit while riding his bike in Southern California, asking him if he’s working out heavily to achieve the look.

‘I don’t work out like crazy; I just, I work out a bit,’ he said. ‘I ride bikes and I play tennis and a little bit.’

He said he’s pared his diet down to ‘vegetables and fish, no dairy, no [meat],’ adding, ‘I just decided I was tired of eating meat and I know its not really good for the planet, and its not really good for me.’

Ellen added, ‘It’s good to not eat meet, I find.’

‘That’s not an electric bike, that’s not an electric bike, I don’t have an electric bike,’ Ford said. ‘I see people with electric bikes and I go, “That’s an electric bike, I don’t like that.”

‘That’s not an electric bike, I don’t have an electric bike, that is not an electric bike, that is not an electric bike … is this a game? Those aren’t my arms either – nice picture though.’ 

The actor is currently promoting his new film The Call of the Wild, which opens in theaters Friday.
