James Corden is reportedly preparing to quit the US as he and his family are feeling ‘homesick’ and miss their relatives.

The actor, 42, was catapulted to worldwide fame after he made his debut as the presenter of The Late, Late Show in 2015, taking over the role from Craig Ferguson.

With the immense popularity of segments like Carpool Karaoke, James has become one of America’s most beloved late night presenters, but he said on Wednesday he and his family may choose to return to the UK when his contract ends in 2023.

James told The Sun that while he has ‘a couple of years to go’ until his contract expires he’ll discuss the prospect of ending his tenure with his loved ones as it’s a ‘bigger family decision’.

He explained: ‘It will be about people at home who we miss very, very much, who we are homesick for.

‘I also feel like my wife and I have three young children, and they are three young grandchildren that we’ve taken away from people.

‘This probably feels particularly magnified now during the pandemic, but I have an overwhelming feeling that our family has walked to the beat of my drum for a very long time.’

James and his wife Julia have been married since 2012, and share three children, son Max, nine, and daughters Carey, six, and Charlotte, three.

The Gavin And Stacey star first cracked America when his stage show One Man Two Guvnors transferred to Broadway in 2012 after a successful stint in the West End.

Thanks to his success on The Late, Late Show, James has landed a number of roles in Hollywood films like Into The Woods and The Prom, and he has also hosted the Tony Awards.

British viewers, however, will know him best from Gavin And Stacey, which he co-wrote and co-starred in with Ruth Jones.

Though he had his commitments to The Late, Late Show, James has returned to work in the UK, including presenting League Of Their Own until 2019 and co-writing and starring in the Gavin And Stacey Christmas Special.

Earlier this month, the British comedian admitted that he initially had doubts about signing on for the role.

James, who relocated to America with his family prior to filming the talk show in 2015, said he was concerned the new gig would end his acting career.

Speaking to News Corp Australia’s The BINGE guide on Sunday, he said: ‘I was worried it would end my career as an actor, taking on the Late Show.

‘I asked my dad about it and he said, “If you build a show where people can see all the different things you can do, provided you don’t stick around too long, it could only enhance your career as an actor”.’
