Lisa Riley would've liked to have children but 'that ship has sailed'

‘I would’ve liked children, but that ship has sailed’: Lisa Riley, 43, says people make her feel ‘incomplete’ by claiming she’s ‘missed out’ on having a family

Lisa Riley has admitted she would have liked to have had children but, at 43, she feels ‘that ship has sailed’.

The Emmerdale actress admitted that, while she would have liked to have had a family, not having children does not make her feel ‘incomplete’.

Speaking to Closer magazine, she said: ‘I’ll be 44 next month, I would’ve liked to have had children but I have accepted that ship has sailed. It doesn’t make me feel incomplete, not having kids. But it’s other people who can make me feel incomplete.’

Lisa explained that she has two nephews and a niece who she feels ‘blessed’ to have while she also considers her Emmerdale co-stars to be her family.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star admitted she sometimes feels judged from people when she tells them she doesn’t have any kids.

She said: ‘When they know I don’t have kids they say “Oh” and there’s that inflection in the word. “Oh, you don’t have children”, like I have missed out.’

Lisa, who plays Mandy Dingle on the ITV soap, added that she is happy with the choices she has made.

She said: ‘But I’m not afraid to say I don’t have children and if I die tomorrow there’s nothing I haven’t done. I have no regrets. I have ticked every box and I have left a happy legacy.’

Lisa is in a relationship with her musician fiancé Al, who she has gone to great lengths to keep out of the spotlight.

She announced they were engaged in May 2018 but has never shared a photo of him on social media, even to mark their anniversaries.

On their five-year anniversary last June, Lisa took to her Instagram to share a picture which said ‘five years’, she captioned it: ‘I LOVE YOU….my life is complete. You make me smile each and every day.

Elsewhere in her interview, Lisa credited HIIT classes (high intensity interval training) with helping her shed 12 stone after putting herself on a strict diet in 2012.

The TV star admitted that when she now looks back on old photos, she hardly recognises herself.

Lisa explained that along with her appearance, she has also changed her entire outlook on life since losing the weight.

The soap star added that is now ‘clinical’ with her food choices and no longer has cravings for sugary treats.

Lisa’s weight loss had left her with some excess skin and she had a tummy tuck to get rid of it.

In 2017, she filmed a documentary detailing her weight loss titled Lisa’s Baggy Body Club.

Speaking in the film, she shared: ‘I feel like a balloon that’s had all its helium taken out.’

‘Everything’s closer. Just been able to go to the toilet, to wipe my ****y. Well my ***y is here now. I had to really reach round all the fat and reach down under, but it’s there.’
