Russell Brand’s mother was pulled bleeding from the comedian’s chauffeur-driven limo after a hit-and-run crash in England.
Barbara Brand, 71, was in the back of an Audi A8 that crashed with a Vauxhall Astra.
Its driver fled after getting into another car.
Barbara had been on her way to babysit at the star’s home.
Russell, 42, and wife Laura, 30, have a daughter, Mabel, 18 months.
A witness who gave first aid said: “The Astra came round the corner and lost control. It went straight into the Audi. The chauffeur got out and fell. Russell’s mum was trapped. She had a seatbelt across her chest. She was in pain and people got her out. She was in a bad way, lying on a stretcher. She had blood coming from her nose and on the back of her head. We were talking to her, trying to keep her with it.”
The witness said the other driver was about 25, adding: “He got out of the passenger door and staggered around. About two cars behind were people in a white VW Golf. They got out, grabbed him, did a U-turn and sped off.”
The passerby said the group also grabbed a package from the Astra.
Russell’s chauffeur was said to be screaming in pain after the crash near Brentwood, Essex.
The onlooker said: “A police officer asked him, ‘Are you a taxi driver?’ He said, ‘No, I’m Russell Brand’s chauffeur, I’m taking his mum in a private car.’” Two ambulances were called and spent up to 30 minutes at the scene.
A source close to Russell said he had raced to his mom’s hospital bedside after hearing the news and canceled his gig in Aberdeen, Scotland.
He was understood to still be with Barbara, whose condition was unknown.
She had told first-aiders she’d recently survived cancer for what is thought to be the sixth time.
Police said: “The Audi driver and passenger, a man in his 40s and woman in her 70s, were taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. The occupant of the Astra had left the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to locate them.”
