The comedian, 33, made light of the pair’s split during his performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival later that night.

Referring to the backlash he experienced, Seann said: ‘I was put into hotels – secret locations so paps couldn’t find me. Now… I’m sort of feeling optimistic, I sat in my bed in my hotel room, and asked Katya to pass me the remote. I’m joking. I never said that before.’

The Sun reported that, following Neil and Katya’s split on Sunday, Seann went on to joke that kissing the Strictly pro felt like he was kissing ‘a gay man’s wife.’

And the publication reported that when an audience member called the comic a ‘f***ing legend’ for the kiss, Seann quipped: ‘Where were you ten months ago? I f***ing needed you.’

Hitting out: It was reported that, following Neil and Katya’s split, Seann went on to joke that kissing the Strictly pro felt like he was kissing ‘a gay man’s wife’

Neil and Katya confirmed they were splitting in joint Instagram statements posted over the weekend, but despite writing they had mutual ‘respect’ and ‘love’, a source has claimed Katya’s infidelity was something her husband couldn’t get over.

A source told The Sun on Monday that their 11 year romance was rocked by the cheating: ‘The infidelity highlighted problems within the relationship and made it impossible for them to get back on track.’

The source continued by claiming that poor ticket sales for their joint tour Somnium: A Dancer’s Dream also created tension, explaining: ‘The public were not buying into them together any more.’

The insider added though that the pro dancers are committed to working together on Strictly ‘as it’s their main source of income,’ with divorced dancers Kevin and Karen Clifton being their guides as they navigate work amid the split.

In their announcement, the couple penned: ‘Hi everyone, as our fans and loyal supporters you are really important to us and so we wanted to let you know some news. After 11 years we have made the mutual decision to separate.’

Neil and Katya were dating for five years when they wed in an idyllic ceremony in London in 2013. The story of their romance played out in their stage show Somnium: A Dancer’s Dream, which they toured with until June this year.

In the last known picture of Neil and Katya, the couple seemed strained as they joined the rest of their Strictly co-stars in heading to rehearsals last month.

Scandal: Seann has had a tumultuous year since appearing in last year’s Strictly after pictures surfaced of he and his dance partner Katya Jones locking lips

Seann has had a tumultuous year since appearing in last year’s Strictly after pictures surfaced of he and his dance partner Katya Jones locking lips on their booze-fuelled night out in London.

Seann was in a long-term relationship with Rebecca Humphries at the time, whilst Katya, 30, is married to fellow Strictly pro, Neil Jones.

Shortly after the scandal, the comedian issued an apology in which he blamed his actions on alcohol, branding it a ‘one-off’ and a ‘mistake’.

Katya echoed the sentiments, claiming she was sorry for the ‘hurt’ she had caused by her actions, but insisted her marriage to Neil was ‘absolutely fine’.

And during his comedy show, Seann admitted that he felt guilty about the incident as he referred to himself as a cheat, a liar, and a bad boyfriend, before making a new joke about Katya.

Referring to the backlash he experienced, Seann said: ‘I was put into hotels – secret locations so paps couldn’t find me. Now, on Friday, I’m sort of feeling optimistic, I sat in my bed in my hotel room, and asked Katya to pass me the remote. I’m joking. I never said that before.’

Drama: Whilst Katya is married to fellow Strictly pro, Neil Jones, with the dancer insisting their marriage is ‘fine’ after the kiss

After his kiss with Katya came to light, Seann was publicly dumped by his girlfriend of five years Rebecca.

She shared a scathing statement in which she revealed she had left the star and taken their beloved cat Winston.

When the scandal occurred in October, Seann dubbed himself ‘the most hated comedian in Britain’ and whilst the furore has died down, he revealed he is still being targeted by trolls.

Seann took to social media earlier this year to share a screenshot of a hugely disrespectful tweet which read: ‘Tried watching @SoccerAM but @seannwalsh. Top class f****** c***. Wish he’d do a Tommy Cooper on live T.V.’

Seann fired back: ‘For people that have seen my show, this is the sort of thing I mean – people wishing I dropped dead on TV and letting me know it.

‘I can’t quite put into words what this feels like. Something has to change.’

The troll, who has since deleted the tweet, was referring to the iconic Welsh prop comedian and magician who tragically died following a heart attack on live television in 1984.
