Steph McGovern and her girlfriend welcomed their daughter in November. The former BBC Breakfast star has now spoken candidly about the struggles the pair faced as they balanced their work-life with home.

The 38-year-old admitted it was “tricky” to strike a perfect balance as working parents to their daughter.

The Channel 4 host explained that it “blows my mind” how single parents are able to manage both.

Speaking in an interview with and other publications, the daytime presenter chatted about her family alongside her colleague Vogue Williams.

Discussing life in lockdown, Steph commented: “Vogue and I are lucky because we both got to spend time with our families.”

“I’ve got a garden and I was able to spend time with my baby.”

She continued: “We originally planned to launch [Steph’s Packed Lunch] from a studio in April and I probably wouldn’t have seen my baby as much as I have done, because I would have been going to work every day.

“You know, physically leaving to go to work.”

The mum-of-one admitted it has been a “treat” being able to spend quality with her 10-month-old baby.

“It has been a real treat. I’ve definitely had moments with her that I don’t think I would have had,” Steph explained.

“I’m not going to deny that it was stressful at times.”

She went on: “Both me and my partner were working from home and looking after a baby with no childcare, but that’s like everyone.

“Everyone has been in that position.”

Steph finished: “I think how hard it must be for single parents. That just blows my mind.”

The broadcaster has remained relatively tight-lipped on her relationship with her girlfriend.

While the presenter invited the nation into her home for The Steph McGovern Show, the presenter is keen to keep her private life out of the spotlight.

Though not much is known as to who Steph’s partner is, it is thought she is a TV executive for the BBC.

Meanwhile, Steph launched her daytime programme on Channel 4 earlier last week.

Speaking about the show, she gushed: “For me, it’s about being inclusive, warm, cheeky, and that’s why I’m glad it’s coming from up here.

“You can sit and have your lunch with us and have a chat about what’s going on but we’re also hopefully going to make you laugh.”

Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12.30pm on Channel 4.
