Bezos first became a billionaire in 1998, when he graced the cover of Forbes alongside other Internet rich icons. At the time, Jeff Bezos was worth $1.6 billion. And even though that’s more money any of us would make in ten lifetimes, the number still pales in comparison to following years, that saw Amazon’s founder’s fortune increased exponentially over the past two decades. Here are Jeff Bezos’ highest-earning years, ranked!

10 2010 – $12.6 Billion

Even though it was over a decade after Jeff Bezos first became a billionaire, 1998 doesn’t even get a spot in the top ten earning years for the Amazon founder. Twelve years after gracing the cover of Forbes, Bezos was worth over ten times more than he was at the time, with a net worth of $12.6 billion according to Wikipedia and Forbes.

2010 was also the year when Amazon Studios, Amazon’s own streaming service, became the first of its kind to win a Golden Globe and be nominated for an Academy Award, putting all the other streaming services to shame.

9 2011 – $18.1 Billion

A year later, Jeff Bezos’ net worth kept growing. Within the span of only twelve months, the billionaire’s net worth went from $12.6 billion to a staggering $18.1 billion. Yes, that’s a lot of money, but still not enough to make him the richest person on the planet.

2011 was the year when Amazon’s localized storefront in Spain first began operating, and also the year when the company announced a partnership with DC Comics for the exclusive digital rights to many beloved comics, including Superman and Batman.

8 2012 – $23.2 Billion

Jumping yet another year, we see Jeff Bezos’ net worth increase once more, and this time we’re moving away from the 10s, all the way up to the 20s. What was a net worth of $18.1 billion in 2011 turned into one of $23.2 billion in 2012, giving Bezos the number 11 spot on the richest people in the world list.

This was the year Amazon began operating its own Brazilian storefront, as well as the year Bezos went around promoting the new Kindle Fire to the world in many renowned television spots, including Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

7 2013 – $27.2 Billion

What are a few more billions to someone who already has more than $23 of those? Well, they probably mean something, and in Jeff Bezos’ case, the numbers just kept on rising. This time around, in 2013, the billionaire’s net worth went from $23.2 to $27.2 billion, quickly approaching the $30 billion mark.

Bezos also went away from the technological side of things in 2013 and acquired both The Washington Post as well as its sister publications for $250 million. Amazon also bought Goodreads, a “social cataloging” website founded in December 2006.

6 2014 – $30.5 Billion

When it comes to making money, much like all the years before and the years after, 2014 was nothing but nice to Jeff Bezos. The Amazon founder saw his net worth increased from $27.2 billion to $30.5 billion after a rumor that Amazon was developing its own smartphone broke and left everyone wondering.

On the public image side, 2014 was a bit rockier, with the International Trade Union Confederation naming him the “World’s Worst Boss” due to all the controversy surrounding the working condition in Amazon storages.

5 2015 – $50.3 Billion

2015 was the year that finally landed Jeff Bezos in the list of the ten richest people in the entire world. In an impressive turn of events, the billionaire’s net worth rose an insane $20 billion over the span of twelve months, going from $30.5 billion in 2014 to $50.3 billion in 2015.

In addition to his spot on the aforementioned top ten list, Bezos also topped the Fortunes list of 50 great leaders of the world. Overall, a great year for the Amazon founder in terms of finances and acknowledgments.

4 2016 – $66.5 Billion

Curiously enough, in 2016, when Forbes’ list of the richest people in the world was calculated, Bezos’ net worth was registered at $45.2 billion, a significant drop from his $50.3 billion net worth stated in the previous years. However, in October 2016, his wealth increased by $16.2 billion.

This now meant Jeff Bezos had a net worth of $66.5 billion, making him the third richest person in the world, and making is net worth growing streak seem unstoppable.

3 2017 – $100 Billion

Much like in the previous year, by the time Forbes had shared its list with the world, Jeff Bezo’s net worth was registered at a lower number than it actually became months later. Initially, Forbes reported that the Amazon founder had a net worth of $72.8 billion, which was already a massive increase compared to the prior year.

However, thanks to Black Friday in November of 2017, Amazon’s share price increased by more than 2.5%, meaning Jeff Bezos was now worth over $100 billion, which saw him raise for the first time to the title of the richest man in the world.

2 2019 – $111.3 Billion

It might surprise you to know that, as of right now, 2019 isn’t Jeff Bezos’ highest-earning year. Only time will tell what will happen in the next month and a half, but with the 9% drop on Amazon stocks in late October, Jeff Bezo’s net worth suffered.

For 24 hours, he ceased to be the richest man in the world, but he soon managed to regain the title. As of right now, the billionaire’s net worth is reported to be $111.3 billion. We will see what happens after Black Friday and Christmas!

1 2018 – $150 Billion

And we’ve reached the top! The years have been very kind to Jeff Bezos’ bank account, there’s no denying that. And so far, the Amazon founder seems to have peaked in 2018, with a reported net worth of a whopping $150 Billion, that made him the richest man in the world for a consecutive year.

Even though in March of that year Forbes reported his net worth to be $112 billion, it soon rose to $150 billion, leading Forbes to deem him “the richest man in modern history”. What will happen next with Jeff Bezos’ net worth?
