Congratulations are in order for actress Scarlett Johansson and Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost, who just announced their engagement. This will be the first marriage for Jost, but the third for Johansson. So who else has Johansson been married to? Let’s take a look at her relationship history, including the people she’s dated.
Way back in high school, Johansson dated musician Jack Antonoff. The two both went to the Professional Children’s School in New York City, and Antonoff took Johansson to prom in 2002. He even wrote her into one of his songs, with the lyrics: “Fame swept her off her feet/she sees nothing she did before… Hey, Scarlett you’re not the same…scars are in her name/and she scars me in blame.” The couple split after graduation and Antonoff went on to have a successful music career, and date Lena Dunham.
In 2004, Johansson briefly dated actor Jared Leto. Years later, Johansson did an interview for Cosmopolitan in which she described falling for an unavailable guy. Although it wasn’t confirmed that she was talking about Leto, most believed she was. Johansson said: “Long, long ago, I had someone in my life who was forever unavailable… but, like, so attractively unavailable. You have to get to your breaking point… rock bottom is the moment when you’re like, ‘I’ve lost myself. Why am I standing outside this bar at 1:30 in the morning texting while my friends are inside? Or taking a taxi to see him at some ungodly hour? This isn’t me.’ That is the moment you’ve gotta cut it off. Otherwise, it will keep coming back, suck your blood.”
Johansson met Josh Hartnett on the set of the movie Black Dahlia. The relationship lasted about a year, but the pair split because of busy schedules. Hartnett told the Mirror, that the break up was “really painful.” He said, “It was difficult spending so much time apart with all our different commitments and both of us flying all over the world.” A source told the Mirror that, “Josh was really gutted when he and Scarlett split- he thought she was really special and felt they might last the distance.” However, Hartnett threw himself into work to get over the heartbreak.
In 2008, Johansson married Ryan Reynolds in a private ceremony held in British Columbia. The pair seemed really happy at first, but just like with Hartnett, distance drove them apart. They announced their divorce in 2011 with the statement: “We entered into our relationship with love, and it’s with love and kindness that we leave it.”
But there may have actually been more to it than that. Sources say the pair were very different and often clashed. The Daily Mail reported that there was a lack of warmth between them and that whenever she talked to him, it sounded like she was yelling. A source said: “When Scarlett visited Ryan on the set of The Proposal, she was screaming at him in his trailer–going nuts.
Sean Penn and Nate Naylor
After her divorce, Johansson moved on the actor Sean Penn. She was seen with the 50-year-old actor on dates all around Los Angeles, holding hands. The pair also took a vacation to Cabo San Lucas but split shortly after. Johansson then dated advertising executive Nate Naylor for about a year.
In 2012, Johansson was spotted with French Journalist and art collector, Romain Dauriac, after they were introduced by their mutual tattoo artist. Johansson told People: “I love his brain more than anything. And he does all the sweet gestures for me. He’s a gentleman.”
The couple had a daughter, named Rose Dorothy Dauriac, in 2014, and were married shortly after in a surprise ceremony. Unfortunately, only two years later, the couple divorced and split equal custody of their daughter.
And now we finally come to the current fiance. Johanson met Colin Jest way back in 2006, when she made her first appearance on Saturday Night Live. However, she was in a relationship at the time with Hartnett, so Johansson and Jest were only friends for over 10 years. Finally, in 2017, Johansson returned for another performance on Saturday Night Live, and this time, sparks flew.
At the SNL afterparty, Johansson and Jest were caught kissing. A source told Page Six: “They would make out a bit, then go back to talking. They were at the bar in front of everyone… they made out at least twice.” Another source claimed the same: “Scarlett and Colin were flirting and canoodling in full view of everyone at the afterparty.
They seemed to have really hit if off, because the pair have been together ever since. After two years, the pair moved in together and began to talk marriage. A source told US Magazine that, “Colin gets a starry-eyed look in his eyes when he talks about her.” Now that the pair are engaged, we hope the long wait means they’ll have a long and lovely marriage. After so many failed romances, Johansson certainly deserves a turn a happily ever after.
