Leicester star Jamie Vardy dedicates goal to friend who committed suicide

The Leicester star was in sublime form as he netted twice during the 5-4 defeat to Spurs on Saturday afternoon.

After scoring one of his goals, Vardy pointed his finger to sky as if dedicating the goal to somebody.

And it has now emerged that a close friend of Vardy and wife Rebekah took his own life recently.

Vardy posted a picture to Instagram showing his celebration, with a caption reading: “One for you buddy [blue heart emoji] #forever.”

The tribute comes on the back of an emotional appearance by Rebekah on TV show Loose Women.

The episode also included actors from soap Coronation Street who had been acting out a suicide storyline, and Rebekah was clearly touched by the chat.

She said: “I watched it on the train down and was nearly in tears. It’s going to be a hard day for me today but we’ll get through it.”

It’s believed Rebekah and her husband then went straight to their friend’s funeral after the show.

Host Kaye Adams said: “I think it’s touched all our lives and I’m sure there’s lots of people watching who all have some experience of someone taking their own life.”
