The father of Nabil Fekir has rubbished suggestions the Lyon captain has met with Jurgen Klopp to discuss a switch to Liverpool.
French international Fekir, 24, has been heavily tipped for a summer switch to Merseyside, following suggestions in France that he has entered talks over a £60million move.
The OL skipper has scored 22 goals in 38 games for his club, inspiring a push for a Champions League place with a standout season from an attacking midfield position.
He has been mooted as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who left for Barcelona in January, despite the impending arrival of Naby Keita.
But the player’s father, Mohamed, has dismissed talk that a deal is in the offing, denying that the left-footed schemer has been on Merseyside for discussions.
“Nabil in Liverpool, that’s wrong,” he said, speaking to Olympique-et-lyonnais.com.
“I hear there are arrangements, stuff like that – I was surprised.
“I can deny this information right now; it’s not true. Otherwise Nabil would have told me right away, we are very close.
“I can guarantee you that he never met him [Klopp]. His dream is to play in the Champions League with his boyhood club.”
It comes after Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas denied suggestions of a switch.
"I do not know where this comes from," said Aulas. "If we had to negotiate for Nabil with a club, I would be the first to know. There has been no contact."
Lyon are set to return to Europe’s top table next season, having been without Champions League football this term.
Bruno Genesio’s side are second in Ligue 1 with two games to play, having surged ahead of Monaco and Marseille with an astonishing eight-match winning run.
