President Trump described himself as a “realist” who knows that winning re-election against Joe Biden is a “longshot” — and will keep challenging the results but ultimately do the “right thing,” Fox News journalist Geraldo Rivera said Friday.
In a series of tweets, Rivera said he had a “heartfelt phone call” with Trump, who he described as a “friend.”
“He seemed like a heavyweight champion who is behind in points leading into the final round, but determined to fight on, knowing all the refs have scored the fight for the other guy,” Rivera wrote. “Still, he’s going to answer the final bell, looking for the knockout he knows is a longshot.”
Rivera also tweeted that Trump “said he’s a ‘realist’ who’ll do the ‘right thing.’”
“But he wants to see ‘what states do in terms of certific[a]tion (etc),’” Rivera added. “He sounded committed to fighting for every vote & if he loses, talking more about all he’s accomplished.”
Trump also “seemed particularly aggrieved by the savage attacks on his presidency from the minute he was elected,” and expressed “special scorn for the phony Russia hoax & Pelosi-driven phony #Impeachment,” Rivera wrote.
