A mammoth spider ‘mistook Christmas for Halloween’ as it stowed away in a festive gingerbread house.
The eight-legged beast gave an Australian mum the shock of her life when she went to get a cheeky afternoon treat.
Katie Gompertz, from Sydney, had tried to sneak an snack with her cuppa without her kids noticing.
But that failed when she realised there was an uninvited guest staying in her gingerbread house.
She found a huntsman spider lingering in the sealed box, complete with a sac of eggs, she told NCA NewWire.
The scared mum said: “As I looked at it I saw a giant leg hanging down from the roof of the packaging.”
“When I looked close I saw it was a giant huntsman complete with a white sac of eggs.
“I have no idea how it got in there, the gingerbread is shrink wrapped.”
Katie said she was left in “hysterics all day” – but has not been able to bring herself to take the snack back to Woolworths, the supermarket from where she'd bought it.

But in response to the terrifying find, Woolworths has promised to replace the festive treat.
A spokesman said: “Oh no Katie. This critter just wanted a home but this is definitely not the right one for her.
“We apologise for the scary surprise. After all, it’s Christmas, not Halloween.”
While Katie appreciated the gesture, she is currently too scared to go anywhere near creepy-crawly.
She added: “It’s currently on my back deck and Woolies have offered to come and replace it.
“They said they’ll take the original one back with the special ingredient but I’m not sure they realise how big it is.”
