Iconic artist Banksy confirms new sneezing old lady ‘Aachoo!!’ mural is his

Banksy has confirmed a mural that appeared on the side of a house in Bristol overnight is his work.

The elusive street artist has claimed the piece entitled 'Aachoo!!"

It appears to show a pensioner whose sneeze is knocking over buildings, an effect created by spraying it on the side of a house in Vale Street in the suburb of Totterdown, recognised as England's steepest road.

The slope is at a gradient of 22 degrees.

The piece was first discovered on Thursday morning. Banksy has since confirmed on his website and Instagram page that the artwork belongs to him.

In an image released by the street artist, the woman's sneeze appears to have knocked over a wheelie bin at the next-door property while a man holding an umbrella is being blown backwards.

The artwork depicts a woman wearing a headscarf and holding a handkerchief, bending over while sneezing. The force causes her to drop her walking stick and handbag, and her dentures are shown shooting out of her mouth.

  • Anger as 'Banksy' wall art protection is spray painted over by vandal

Fred Loosmore, 28, rented a room in the house until recently and has screwed a piece of clear acrylic over the artwork to protect it.

He said: "We wanted to come up because people will deface it, and luckily we've got a workshop and massive piece of acrylic we've got left over. We're going to screw it on now.

"When we lived here so many people would come, especially on bikes and stuff because they were trying to do the challenge up the hills. It's a great spot.

  • 'Banksy' responds to claims he is Art Attack star Neil Buchanan in new graffiti

"The artwork is so nice. It's so relevant, isn't it?"

Vale Street hosts an Easter egg rolling competition every year due to its steep gradient.

The identity of Banksy has long been a source of debate.

His street art has been popping up over the country since the 1990s but he has managed to retain his anonymity.

Earlier this year Twitter speculation suggested former Art Attack presenter Neil Buchanan, 59, was Banksy, a claim denied by his publicist.
