The wife of Manchester United star Fred has shared a picture of herself at home in Brazil ahead of Saturday's derby clash in the Premier League.

Monique Salum, who is married to the Red Devils midfielder, posted from Belo Horizonte, where she has returned for Christmas without her husband.

Alongside the two pictures, showing her in a colourful dress on a balcony, she wrote: "The place I love most in the world!"

On her Instagram story, shared with her 133k followers, she also shared a picture of Fred in preparation for Saturday's game.

United are taking on Manchester City at Old Trafford today, with the game kicking off at 5.30pm.

Ole Gunnar Soskjaer's side start the game in seventh, two places above their nearest rivals, and five points off Spurs in top spot.

Monique has brains as well as beauty, after graduating from the University Centre of Belo Horizonte in her home country.

She now works as a chemical engineer at the Centre for the Development of Nuclear Technology.

The stunning blonde, who stands at around 5ft10, can be seen towering over the 5ft7 Fred in pictures.

Fred and Monique have a son together, Benjamin, and although they live in Manchester, Monique loves returning to Brazil.

This weekend, Manchester Evening News reported how Fred's fellow countryman Alex Telles praised the midfielder for helping him to adapt to life in England.

In an interview with United Review, the defender, who joined on deadline day for £13.6m from Porto, stressed his gratitude to the Brazilian and even revealed his new nickname.

Asked about the support from Fred, he said: "'Fredinho' was already waiting for me in the dressing room.

"As we're both Brazilian we have this connection – same culture, same language.

"We get on really well and I'm very grateful for the welcome he gave me here."

In the interview, Telles also admitted that he has been so busy with the gruelling fixture schedule that he is yet to visit Manchester city centre since arriving in England.

Telles has missed a number of games this season after testing positive for Covid-19 and has also been involved in trips to Germany, Paris and Turkey in the Champions League.

He added: "It's a crucial period between games and training sessions, it's a great opportunity for me to adapt to the club and the city.

"I haven't had the chance to visit Manchester city centre yet because of all the games but I'd like to get to know the city and have some more time to rest, to always be well prepared for games, so I think this is a good period."
