Why Prince Harry shouldn’t have asked brother Prince William to be his best man

Prince Harry has always been extremely close with his big brother William.

The two men have been through some unimaginably tough times together, and they are the only people to truly understand the pressures they’re under as young senior royals.

This morning Kensington Palace announced Prince Harry has asked Wills to be his best man when he marries American actress Meghan Markle next month.

Most people assumed he would have the role but things got a bit awkward in January when Wills revealed Harry hadn’t asked him yet .

But strictly speaking, Prince Harry really shouldn’t have asked his brother to be his best man.

According to tradition, royal grooms don’t have a best man.

Instead they have supporters who help them out on the big day.

When Prince Charles married Lady Diana in 1981 he had his younger brothers Andrew and Edward as his supporters.

But of course this isn’t the first time the brothers have broken this tradition, as William asked Harry to do the honour when he married Kate Middleton back in 2011.

The palace released a cute old photo of the princes dressed up as police officers as children, alongside a statement which said: "Prince Harry has asked his brother The Duke of Cambridge to be his Best Man at his wedding to Ms. Meghan Markle .

"The Duke of Cambridge is honoured to have been asked, and is very much looking forward to supporting his brother at St George’s Chapel, Windsor on May 19th.

"Prince Harry served as best man to The Duke of Cambridge at his wedding to Miss Catherine Middleton in 2011."

Harry and Meghan will tie the knot at Windsor Castle on May 19 .

After the newly weds say their vows in St George’s Chapel they will take a carriage ride through Windsor to wave to crowds before having a reception in St George’s Hall.

In the evening, Prince Charles will host a private evening party for 200 guests at Frogmore House.
