The UK’s coronavirus death toll has risen by 598, the highest rise in fatalities since the height of the pandemic in May.

A staggering 52,745 have lost their lives to the virus since March, with the current total number of positive cases standing at 1,410,732.

In just a week, the number of deaths in England and Wales with Covid-19 on their death certificate soared by 40%.
