Woman and dog fall through ice in Cherry Knolls Pond in Centennial.

A woman and dog were rescued Thursday afternoon from the icy waters of a pond in Centennial.

A dog and its owner were pulled to safety by a person who witnessed the accident, according to South Metro Fire Rescue.

“That person slid on their stomach out to the water and pulled the victim and dog out,” SMFR said on Twitter.

The owner and pet fell through the ice in Cherry Knolls Park, near the 2800 block of East Easter Avenue, after the dog had chased geese on the ice, about 40-feet from the shore, rescue personnel said.

Paramedics on scene evaluated everyone involved and determined there were no injuries. Responders kept everyone warm and took them home.

“No ice is safe ice,” SMFR said. “If an animal falls through, stay on shore and dial 911 immediately.”
