Daisy liner is the perfect way to upgrade your eye makeup for spring/summer

Those of steady hand and makeup-loving heart, listen up: this graphic liner micro-trend is for you.

It also happens to be oh-so perfect for spring/summer, and not that difficult to do.

The trend of which we speak is daisy liner – drawing tiny little flowers on to your eyes, basically.

The concept of floral eye makeup isn’t brand new, of course.

But a specific take on graphic eyeliner has struck a chord recently, in part thanks to Mels Smith, an influencer and the founder of earring brand The Pixie Wand.

Mels debuted the makeup look to match with a set of lilac and daisy print earrings, and we’ll agree that matching your statement jewellery to your makeup is a move that’s well worth making.

But you don’t need to buy into the earrings to try out this trend.

Instead, Mels’ hugely popular makeup design involves a wash of lavender-hued shadow (Mels used shades from Huda Beauty) across the eyelids, a darker purple on the lower lashline, then the star of the show: a carefully painted wing made up of individual daisies.

The Instagram posts sparked a bunch more, from people recreating the look exactly or taking inspiration from the idea.

And thus, with multiple people rocking daisy liner on our feeds, we’re decreeing it an official trend that’s well worth trying out.

The good news is that while daisy liner requires some patience, it isn’t a look that can only be done by the MUA elite.

All you’ll need is white eyeliner and yellow eyeliner – or you could mix some eyeshadow with water, if you don’t happen to have both shades.

Then, get dotting.

First, add a yellow dot for the centre of the daisy. If you’re naturally gifted with a liner brush, you can freehand it, but if you need a little help, this is a super easy trick to cheat.

Just find some kind of tool that has an end that’s the right size for your preferred dot. Maybe a cotton bud, or the non-brush end of a small paintbrush, a bobby pin, a blunt pencil, whatever you can find that works. Then dip into your colour and lightly press.

Then for the petals, you can do the exact same thing, adding five dots around the yellow centre.

We’ve seen people take things up a notch by painting on pointed petals, but this isn’t a necessity – only if you’re keen to show off your skills.

It can help to paint on your wing first (perhaps in lilac) as a guide line, to keep your daisies in place.

Once you’ve got the knack, you can play around with different designs and shapes.

Some people have added tiny daisy accents to their regular wings, while others have gone for a floating floral arch.

You can try out different colours, too, if you’re not so keen on traditional daisies.

Whatever you go for, as long as your lids are loaded up with flowers, you’re on the right track.
