Doctor Warns Against Viral TikTok Technique That Makes Your Arm Veins Pop

A doctor has warned that a viral TikTok trend that makes the veins in your forearms pop can result in muscle loss and damage.

The technique, which involves squeezing the vein above your bicep and flinging your arm downwards so you pump it full of blood, was first shared on TikTok by @coldkingcai. It has since been viewed more than nine million times and has 1.6 million likes.

But a doctor has warned that making your arm veins prominent by using the method can be “highly dangerous”.

Speaking to LadBible, Dr. Emeka, who is on TikTok and Instagram, said: “We need to be very careful about these TikTok trends involving our body parts.

“As harmless as it may seem, clenching, your arm like this could be highly dangerous to your vessels and nerves. It can result in muscle loss and damage and also loss of blood flow, which can lead to further medical complications down the line.”

Added to that, there are so many simpler and safer ways to make the veins show on your arms.

We have a whole article on the subject, but to give you the précis version, your veins pump blood back toward your heart, but the venous outflow is slower than arterial inflow, which causes a back-up of venous blood and that’s what makes your veins pop.

If you want to elicit that response in your arms you have four options, and you can do any and all of the following: lower your body fat percentage, reduce your sodium intake, increase your muscle size and drink plenty of water. It’s that simple.

That’s how you do in a much safer and better – even if we do say so ourselves – way than faking it with a TikTok technique.
