MANCHESTER UNITED superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has wished his mother Dolores Aveiro happy birthday with an emotional post.

Ronaldo is very close to his mum and has repeatedly credited her as a major influence for the way his life and legendary career transpired.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner described her as as "warrior" that taught him to never give up as she and his late father Jose raised him along with his brother Hugo, 46, and two sisters Elma, 48, and Katia, 44.

Ronaldo posted a photo of her on Instagram with the following caption: "Happy birthday to the best mother in the world, a warrior who always taught me not to give up, the best grandmother my children could ever dream of having…

"I love you so much, my mother! Kiss!"

Dolores has been supporting Ronaldo throughout his entire career as his biggest fan.

The 67-year-old helped the star forward fulfil his dreams ever since his professional career kicked off in 2002 at Sporting Lisbon.

The Portugal captain left Lisbon a year later for United and went on to achieve greatness.

Now that the Real Madrid great is approaching the twilight of his career, Dolores is hoping that he will return to her favourite club Sporting one day to complete the circle.

She regularly posts pictures of her watching the Lions with family and friends on social media and confessed on a recent podcast: “I’ve already told him, ‘Son, before I die I want to see you return to Sporting'.”

Dolores was congratulated by Sporting fans on Christmas Day as they assumed it was her who planted a present from the club's gift shop under Ronaldo's tree.

The green bag with the initials SCP – short for Sporting CP – was top of the pile of presents her son and his family received.
