Alisson Becker has thanked everyone that send messages to him and his family after the tragic death of his father Jose on Wednesday.
The 57-year-old drowned after going swimming at a dam at the family’s holiday home in southern Brazil.
Jose was reported missing and his body was found just before midnight when it was confirmed he had died.
Alisson and his family have received messages of condolences from around the world after the terrible news and he has thanked well-wishers for their support.
‘I would like to thank everyone for the messages and tributes to my beloved father! Our family feels loved by everyone! May God bless each one’s life!’ Alisson tweeted.
‘The thoughts of everybody at the club are with Alisson and the Becker family at this incredibly sad and difficult time.
‘The club requests that the media respects the privacy of Alisson and his family during this time.’
Tributes and messages of support from within football have poured in, including from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who wrote: ”I and all of my colleagues and players at Man City send our heartfelt sympathies to Alisson Becker and his family following the tragic and sudden death of his father.
‘The loss of a loved one is difficult to bear at any time but the circumstances of this awful news must be very difficult to cope with. Our thoughts are with you.’
