Argentina’s hopes for a smooth build up to the World Cup final may have taken a knock – after a party of the team’s WAGs were caught up in a late night drama.
A number of the wives and girlfriends of the Argentina players were forced to flee their hotel late at night after a power cut which threw the building into darkness, Sportsmail can reveal.
Several other WAGS as well as players’ parents and children had to be ferried from the five-star Waterfront Hotel because they felt it was no longer safe in their hotel.
Argentina’s WAGs were fled the Waterfront Hotel on Wednesday night because of a power cut
They were taken to an alternative luxury hotel on an island in an emergency move – just over 72 hours ahead of the team’s showpiece clash with France.
Among the WAGS involved were: Jorgelina Cardoso, the wife of former Manchester United star Angel Di Maria; Linda Raff, the wife of Alejandro Gomez; and Agustina Gandolfo, the wife of Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez.
A source close to the WAGS said: ‘The Argentines have paid a lot of money and do not expect to have to sit in darkness in their hotel rooms – and there were safety issues too.

Linda Raff, wife of Sevilla forward Alejandro Gomez, was also staying at the Waterfront Hotel
‘Many of them have young children and babies and after talking to the players and other staff, they decided to move.’
It was the second drama to involve Gandolfo in a matter of days. The 26-year-old businesswoman from Mendoza is reported to have been taken to hospital after finding pieces of glass in her drink while at a club celebrating after Argentina had won its semi-final with Croatia on Tuesday evening.
She sought medical help fearing she may have drunk some of the glass. Medics who examined her were satisfied that she had not suffered any injury.

But when locals later suggested that Gandolfo may have planted the glass in her drink at a club at a Qatar mall herself, she took to Instagram to slam them, saying: ‘A disgrace, we have the complaint and witnesses at the club.’
The Waterfront is one of seven hotels at the centre of a dispute over financial arrangements with tour operators Khaya and their Sheikh owners.
A series of rows have broken out with claims by the operators that guests were asked for extra payments when checking into rooms which had been prepaid, and rates agreed.

Khaya CEO Volkhard Bauer said told Sportsmail: ‘Two weeks before the World Cup we received demands from the hotels demanding an extra $550,000 even though we had pre-paid $10million. We are now assessing what legal steps are open to us.’
Sportsmail telephoned one of the Sheikh’s family who is involved in the family hotel business, and he ended the call immediately without responding.
The Waterfront hotel has also been contacted for comment.
