Bryony Frost: I was out of luck last week but I'm hoping to bounce back on Super Saturday at Newbury | The Sun

I’M off to Newbury — and fingers crossed we have some luck.

I told you how much I was looking forward to riding Halo Des Obeaux last week but, sadly, the long trip to Musselburgh didn’t give us the winner we hoped.

Halo took off perfectly for the third but, for a reason best known to him, the landing gear came out before we got to the other side.

He put down between the ditch and the fence and it was a heavy fall. You could say we were unlucky, but I see it as being lucky to just have to catch our breath and shake ourselves down.

There are some falls which seem soft but break you, and horrible ones like this when you’re just winded.

An hour later was painful in a different way when Outlaw Peter was beaten inches. His ears were in front on the line but his nose wasn’t —  those are the small margins at times.

Hopefully I’ll have better luck at Newbury, starting with FLEMENSTIDE for boss Paul Nicholls in an open-looking handicap hurdle.

He’s a lovely big horse who will  appreciate the better ground and this is the first time he has had it since I won a nice race on him at Ascot four runs back.

Paul also runs Barbados Buck’s, another I’ve won on in the past. He’s got a big gallop to him and I can see why he’s favourite.

Then I’ve got ARQOOB for Lucy Wadham, who jumped well when I rode him  at Huntingdon. He showed a good attitude in finishing second to a nice horse and we were clear of the rest.

The second run is always telling for horses coming from the Flat – like Arqoob – because that’s when you really find if they have taken to hurdling.

A couple of the Ditcheat stars are out at Newbury as well, with Greaneteen in the Game Spirit, and Hitman in the Denman Chase.

Chloe Humphries has been working Greaneteen and he looks in fabulous form. His cabinet has some serious trophies in it – we won the Tingle Creek together – and hopefully he can add another big one here.

Hitman has bounced right back from his King George run and, when I schooled him this week, he was really fresh and jumping well. He is well fancied and will take all the beating.

Until next week, stay safe and keep kicking.
