BRITISH cyclist Chris Froome has lifted the lid on the agony of being involved in a crash on his return to the Tour de France.
The four-time champion was among the worst affected when when more than 50 riders collided at the end of stage one.
The tour had already witnessed a heavy incident after a fan's hand-written sign ended up wiping out half of the peloton.
And Froome was among the cyclists who went down during a later crash, injuring his left side and chest although fortunately not breaking any bones.

Speaking from a hospital bed yesterday evening, as reported by the Mail, he said: "In a split-second there were 50 or 60 of us all on the ground.
"I guess that's bike racing."
He added: "I'm hoping I can still start tomorrow but at the moment I can't put any pressure on my left leg and it's not looking great."
Froome managed to get back on his bike today to complete stage two of the Tour de France despite spending time in the hospital the night before.
As reported by the BBC, the Israel Start-Up Nation team rider said: "I'm pretty sore this morning.
"I'll try to get through today, just survive today's stage and hope that over the coming days it starts to feel better."
Froome had admitted in a pre-race interview before stage two that he initially "feared the worst" after injuring himself in the crash.
He added: "I couldn't move the left peg initially but I think it was just the big impact.
"I was in a lot of pain and I wasn't sure I was going to be able to pedal."
