Controversial ex-Liverpool star Luis Suarez helps spark riot in Gremio clash as ARMY forced to break up clash on pitch | The Sun

LUIS SUAREZ helped spark a wild brawl in Gremio’s win over Avenida that needed the army to intervene to help break it up.

The former Liverpool and Barcelona striker, 36, made a dream debut for the Brazilian club last month with a hat-trick.

However, his latest antics have helped create headlines for all of the wrong reasons in his latest outing.

Uruguayan star Suarez received a quick free-kick in the Avenida half and proceeded to square it to his team-mate Franco Cristaldo.

His colleague went on to score as the opposition players were still remonstrating the award of the set-piece.

The officials gave the green light for the goal to stand – but this absolutely infuriated the visiting team who quickly surrounded the referee.

Avenida’s captain was given his marching orders after receiving a second yellow card, only the official to drop it amid the chaotic scenes as the player’s irate team-mates charged towards the official.

That led to the military police racing onto the pitch with shields to protect the ref.

Gremio went on to grab a second goal later on as they finished up playing against nine men following another red card issued during the protests.

Suarez's Gremio now sit comfortably at the top of the table as they continued their 100 per cent start to the campaign.
