Darts star Danny Jansen in ‘joke arrest for underage drinking’ while in America

A promising Dutch darts player has been given a taste of life in America.

US-based darts professional Jules van Dongen, who took part in the US Masters event in New York earlier this summer, has been hosting his friend Danny Jansen, nicknamed The Mullet, a rising star on the PDC European Tour.

Netherlands-born Van Dongen has been chronicling the trip on his Twitter page. The pair started out with a spot of shooting, with Van Dongen showing off an impressive collection of weaponry before posting a video of Jansen attempting to shoot. It was unclear whether the firearms belonged to him or a gun club.

Next was a picture featuring another popular American pastime, baseball, as the pair took in a game between the Kansas City Royals, and Chicago White Sox. Their outing appeared to have ended on a sour note, with Van Dongen posting a picture of Jansen being handcuffed by a police officer.

“Fudge.. Danny just got arrested for underage drinking…,” he tweeted before later clarifying: "Just FYI, as can be seen in the picture this is just a joke :p."

The PDC also confirmed to Daily Star Sport that there was no arrest.

It has been an eventful summer for Van Dongen, who was involved in a spicy match with Michael van Gerwen at the US Masters, held at Madison Square Garden. Van Gerwen won the first round tie 6-4 but was then rather disparaging about his opponent’s attempts to whip up the crowd while on stage.

“He has to do that, what else can he do? With all due respect, he doesn’t have 20 per cent of the talent I’ve got. You have to do something. With all due respect to him, that’s the facts.”

In reply, Van Dongen tweeted: “D**** come in all shapes and sizes, sometimes they wear green jerseys. I play with my heart I might not have the talent he does but I sure am enjoying it all [heart and US flag emojis].”

Van Dongen soon deleted the tweet before launching a charity fundraiser in conjunction with Van Gerwen.

Van Dongen tweeted: “Let's have some fun and raise $ for charity! Bid on my 2022 bet365 US Darts match-worn jersey against MVG to benefit the MSA [Multiple System Atrophy] Coalition! 20% of the proceeds will be donated to Make-A-Wish Nederland in MVG's name!.”

Van Dongen had another dig at Van Gerwen later in the tournament, which he watched as part of the crowd, tweeting a picture of himself holding a signing reading: “MVG is 1% as good looking as JVD.”
