'Dinosaur at the ready' – Sam Allardyce link to shock return at Burnley has fans in meltdown after Dyche sacked

SAM ALLARDYCE is the bookies' favourite to replace Sean Dyche at Burnley – but footie fans aren't impressed.

In a risky move, Burnley owners swung the axe on Dyche after ten years at the club.

The Clarets are in the midst of a desperate battle to beat the drop, occupying the final relegation spot and four points behind Everton.

A whole host of names have been linked with the ominous-looking job at Turf Moor, with Allardyce favourite at 10/3 to get it.

But many Burnley fans and football fans in general are in meltdown at the thought of "dinosaur" Allardyce, 67, making his grand return.

Jay Magee wrote on Twitter: "If they appoint Allardyce or Rafa [Benitez] to send us down then please send me to the Gulag."

Sean Gregory posted: "Sam Allardyce incoming" with the emojo of head in hands.

Jack Webb joked that there was an "Allarydyce masterclass incoming", while another Burnley fan wrote that they would be "fully finished" if Big Sam was appointed.

One Claret was fuming, writing that he expects the club "to be making a lot of season ticket refunds" if the former Everton and West Ham man got the job.

Dan Thomas wrote that "Burnley have had a shocker", with another adding that they "deserve liquidation" if Allardyce replaces Dyche.

But there were a few fans who believed the appointment would be sensible.

One posted that Burnley are "the most Sam Allardyce club in the Premier League", with another adding that he is a "short-term firefighter".

And there were quite a few Everton fans worried that Allardyce bagging the Burnley job could spell bad news for their team.

Daniel Williams was one of those, writing: "Ffs Allardyce is going to come in and keep them up at our expense isn’t he?"

Dyche has been in charge at Turf Moor since 2012, leading them to two Premier League promotions.

But this season they are in a relegation fight, four points from safety with just eight games to go.
