Football star's sickening clash with floodlight and rushed to hospital with head injury in Dubai

A PLAYER from Al Jazira is recovering in hospital after suffering a head injury in a sickening fall onto a floodlight during a friendly match.

Ahmed Rabia was competing for the ball with a player from Emirates Club at the United Arab Emirates Football Association's Al Khawaneej training pitches in Dubai.

After being unable to slow down in the few yards between pitch and floodlight, he collides with the metal post at full speed.

Players from both teams immediately realised the seriousness of the injury and medical staff rushed Rabia to hospital.

“From the team medical doctor’s report, the injury isn’t as serious as we thought before the scans,” said Al Jazira team manager Ahmed Saeed at the time.

"Ahmed is recovering well and his condition is improving day-by-day."

The incident occurred in late March and the player is still thought to be in hospital, initially given a recovery time of four to six weeks.

UAE prime minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid has since visited Rabia as a show of support, which Saeed said the forward appreciated.
