Liverpool's odds of winning Premier League title slashed to 3/1 after impressive start to new season

LIVERPOOL'S odds of lifting the Premier League title have been cut to 3/1 after a convincing start to the campaign.

The Reds' price of becoming champions has been cut to 3/1 by the bookies after just two games following last night's 2-0 victory away to Crystal Palace.

City are clear favourites to win the title but Liverpool have proved they have the beating of Pep Guardiola's men, winning three of their four meetings last season.

Jurgen Klopp's side appear to have ironed out their defensive issues which have held them back in the past after keeping clean sheets in their opening two games.

This has partly been down to heavy investment, which has seen the arrivals of Virgil van Dijk for £75million and goalkeeper Allison for £67m.

Last night James Milner scored from the spot to send Liverpool on their way to victory against the Eagles, before Sadio Mane scored late in injury time.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville confessed Liverpool are genuine contenders for the first in recent years.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: "It's the shortest odds that Liverpool have been for 10 years.

"It's probably the first time at the start of the season that I've thought they have a genuine chance of winning the league.

Barcelona's odds slashed from 8/1 to 1/20 to sign Spurs' target Traore

"In the past I've felt they were always short in certain areas – sometimes not necessarily through the players they have or the manager, but sometimes through investment or the depth of the squad."

He added: "What Liverpool are doing here – with 22 goals conceded in 30 games, 74 scored in 30 games – if you project that over a 38-game season and they can achieve these numbers, they would win the championship in terms of those averages and goals, in many of the seasons."
