Man Utd in talks with AC Milan over Nemanja Matic transfer despite Solskjaer looking to give him new deal – The Sun

AC MILAN are reportedly in talks with Manchester United over potentially signing midfielder Nemanja Matic.

Matic is out of favour at Old Trafford, making just six Premier League appearances this season, which is arguably more than he could have expected with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's hand forced with both Paul Pogba and Scott Tominay struggling with injuries.

With the 31-year-old’s United contract set to expire in the summer, Matic looks increasingly likely to be heading for the exit.

AC Milan have expressed a firm interest in bringing in Matic, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by Football Italia.

The 6ft 3in midfielder will look to leave Manchester at the end of their 2019/2020 campaign after eight seasons in the Premier League, three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one League Cup.

AC Milan are one of many possible suitors in the running, with others including Atletico Madrid from LaLiga and Chicago Fire from the MLS. But it remains uncertain as to whether United will let him go ahead of schedule.

There is an underlying clause in his contract which could see his United deal being extended by one more year.

United have made it clear they do not want to lose Matic on a free transfer, and have told him they plan to trigger the 12-month option in his contract soon.

However Matic, who has been heavily linked with a move to Italy on multiple occasions, is said to be open to speaking with foreign clubs this month.

The potential signing of the Siberian is well timed, as  Milan are in need of extra stability and Matic could be the bolster they require.

Matic would provide a great option for Milan boss Stefano Pioli in the middle of the park and boost the Rossoneri’s hopes of finishing in Serie A’s top four this season.

Milan, after a disastrous start to the season, are currently sitting 10th in the table with 10 points between themselves and fourth-place Atalanta.
