Fans have spotted Michael van Gerwen “getting the badge in” at Cambridge University ahead of Premier League Darts finals night.
The six-time Premier League champion is preparing to take on world no.1 Michael Smith at the O2 on Thursday night for the latest major crown. But the Dutchman first took time out of recovering from an arm injury by visiting the University of Cambridge on Tuesday.
Van Gerwen was invited for an interview at the Cambridge Union – the world’s largest debating society – where he was quizzed by university students for an hour.

But despite following in the footsteps of many iconic people before him, fans were more delighted at the 34-year-old “getting the badge in,” in reference to his Stone Island jumper.
The jacket was for a long time associated with English football firm culture but has become a staple for celebrities such as Drake and Liam Gallagher in recent times.
But since growing in popularity, many ordinary people and celebrities alike have sought to “get the badge in” by contorting their left arm to show off their Stoney badge, giving rise to a hilarious meme.

And fans couldn’t help but poke fun at Van Gerwen after a picture emerged on social media of him alongside a student with his left arm angled so that the logo was visible.
One Twitter user wrote: “He got that badge in,” while another tweeted: “Cambridge University (A)”
Another indeed: “When you’ve got Cambridge University at 2pm and Oxford university away at 4pm.”
It is by no means the first time Van Gerwen has sent fans wild by showing off his Stone Island garments.
The world no.3 was snapped entering his dressing room in a sleek Stone Island jacket earlier this month before a Premier League match.
He also wowed fans with his ‘Stoney pose’ in February, showing off his expensive clobber by posing alongside his new BMW X6 M50.
Van Gerwen will be hoping to win his record seventh Premier League Darts title on Thursday while landing a cheque of £275,000.
His clash with Smith is a repeat of January's world championship decider, where MVG lost out.
The winner on this occasion will meet either Gerwyn Price or Jonny Clayton in the Final, with Van Gerwen insisting he is "100%" despite sustaining an injury last week.
