Newcastle 'leading Joe Rodon transfer chase and Tottenham are likely to allow defender leave on loan in January'

NEWCASTLE are reportedly interested in out of favour Tottenham defender Joe Rodon to bolster their defensive ranks.

The Welshman has played just 20 times for Spurs since his 2020 £11million transfer from Swansea.

And according to the Telegraph, Spurs are willing to let the defender leave on loan in January with Newcastle one of the clubs interested in acquiring his services.

The Magpies are deep in a relegation battle to stay in the Premier League, and after the weekend's defensive display against champions Manchester City, they're in desperate need of reinforcements.

Eddie Howe's men fell a goal behind in comedic fashion.

Centre-back Ciaran Clarke let Joao Cancelo's cross go over his head hoping keeper Martin Dúbravka would claim the ball.

But City defender Ruben Dias got there first and capitalised on the calamitous error.

Newcastle are three points off 17th place, but most of their relegation rivals hold a game or two in hand over them – leaving them in danger of being left behind.

They could, however, face stiff competition from Brighton for Rodon's signature.

The Seagulls started the season well, but have failed to pick up a win in their last 11 Prem outings.

And according to The Times, boss Graham Potter wants to bring Rodon in to help stop the rot.
