FOOTBALL star Patrick Mahomes and his fiance Brittany Matthews welcomed their new baby on Saturday.
Sterling Skye Mahomes was born this weekend, weighing 6 pounds and 11 ounces.
Matthews posted a photo of Sterling's hand clutching her finger, with Matthews wearing a necklace that reads "Sterling."
The two East Texas natives announced their pregnancy on September 29 and later announced their baby's gender in October.
Mahomes and Matthews, both 25, have been a couple since high school.
The Kansas Chiefs quarterback proposed to Matthews in September at the Kansas Chiefs' stadium.
Mahomes is the son of star MLB pitcher Patrick Mahomes, and his godfather is another star MLB pitcher, LaTroy Hawkins.
Hawkins recently spoke about Mahomes telling him and his father that he was expecting a child with his high school sweetheart.
"I remember when Patrick’s dad told me his girlfriend was pregnant," Hawkins said. "I remember when he was born."
"I would baby-sit him," Mahomes' godfather said. "He’d come stay at the house, come see me, during the season, so I’ve been pretty much a part of his life since he was a kid."
Mahomes was a star baseball, basketball and football player growing up, and both his father and Hawkins emphasized Mahomes could excel in whatever sport he wanted to, saying he didn't have to choose baseball on their behalf.
"His dad and I always told him: 'Be whatever you want to be. You don’t have to play baseball because we played baseball,'" Hawkins said.
"I’m happy he picked football, not just because it worked out, but because it’s something that he chose," Hawkins said.
Mahomes recently played in Super Bowl LV this month opposite Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
This was Mahomes' second consecutive Super Bowl.
He recently underwent surgery for turf toe following his Super Bowl appearance
