Pep Guardiola and Man City stars look miserable as they make the journey back to England after shock Real Madrid defeat

PEP GUARDIOLA and his glum Manchester City stars have arrived back in England after their devastating Champions League collapse in Madrid last night.

The Premier League leaders led the tie 5-3 on aggregate going into the 90th minute of the second leg, only to concede twice in quick succession.


After Rodrygo's late double sent the match to extra time, Karim Benzema won the tie for Real Madrid from the penalty spot.

Guardiola, 51, admitted after the game that City will need "one or two days" to recover from the devastating defeat.

His side have now arrived home following their disappointment.

City stars appeared tired as they disembarked at Manchester Airport earlier today.

They will now continue to process the disappointing result, before turning their attention back to the Premier League.

The league leaders host Newcastle United on Sunday, with the title race with Liverpool set to go down to the wire.

Jurgen Klopp's men, who did manage to reach the Champions League final this week, host Tottenham on Saturday.

After last night's game Guardiola defiantly said: "We need one or two days but we will rise, we will come up.

"We will have do so, with our people. We did everything we could. We were really, really close but in the end we could not do it."

He then added: "It is tough for us, I cannot deny. We were so close to the Champions League final.

"Now we need to process that and come back, with our people at home and in the last four games we have."

Meanwhile, Real Madrid partied in their dressing room to celebrate their incredible comeback win.

Toni Kroos labelled his team a "f***ing joke", while Jack Grealish deleted an old tweet in which he wrote "Hala Madrid".

The £100million signing was the subject of criticism from Arsene Wenger, with the Frenchman claiming that he did not "fight" to stop Dani Carvajal's cross that led to Rodrygo's second goal.
