Sean Levey facing ban after failing drugs test and becomes second jockey in a WEEK to face BHA investigation | The Sun

SEAN LEVEY became the second jockey in a week to face a BHA investigation after allegedly failing a drugs test.

The 34-year-old could be hit with a six-month ban after he was informed of the shock news at Sandown on Wednesday.

It’s understood Levey took a saliva test at Sandown which came up positive before his only ride on the card.

He has since been stood down by the BHA until further notice and missed his rides at Newcastle’s Racing League fixture yesterday.

He’s also been taken off all his mounts at Newbury today and has not been booked over the weekend.

The jockey yesterday carried out a B-sample test and is awaiting the results. Levey denies taking any banned substances.

There are a number of explanations for a positive test, including medication and contamination.

He joins fellow rider Marco Ghiani to be banned indefinitely by the BHA as separate investigations are carried out.

Levey’s agent Sash Righton only confirmed Levey had been stood down for “medical reasons.”

His boss and trainer Richard Hannon revealed Levey was not injured.

He said yesterday: “I don’t know. But he’s not injured, you’ll have to ask him.”

The BHA said they could not divulge any information on the matter for confidentiality reasons.

The only detail from the authority comes from Wednesday’s Sandown stewards’ report. It states Levey was replaced for a reason defined as ‘other.

The starting point for drugs ban is two months.

But in recent times high-profile jockeys Oisin Murphy and Frankie Dettori have both faced six-month bans for drug offences.
