Solskjaer opens door for Cristiano Ronaldo to return to Man Utd as Fernandes tries to talk pal out of City transfer

MANCHESTER UNITED manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened the door for legend Cristiano Ronaldo to return to the club.

The 36-year-old is set to leave Juventus in the coming days and United's rivals Manchester City are the favourites to sign him.

Solskjaer told the press: "Cristiano is a legend of this club, the greatest player of all time if you ask me.

"I was fortunate enough to play with him. I coached him when I got my job. Let's see what happens."

Solskjaer also revealed Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes is trying to persuade his compatriot Ronaldo to make an Old Trafford comeback.

The manager added: "We've always had a good communication. Bruno has been talking to him. He knows what we feel about him.

"If he was ever going to move away from Juventus, he knows we're here. Everyone who has played with him has a soft spot for him."

Solskjaer's comments came just minutes after Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri confirmed Ronaldo wants to leave the Italian club.

The Portuguese forward has said goodbye to his Juve team-mates and is widely expected to complete a transfer in the next few days.
