Tobin Heath’s Arsenal spell ends with USA ace released early from contract by mutual consent following injury

TOBIN HEATH’s Arsenal stint has come to an end with the forward leaving the club by mutual agreement following a hamstring injury.

The USA forward has been contending with a minor problem which has ruled her out of the Gunners’ last three games of the season.

Heath’s one-year contract was due to expire at the end of the 2021-22 term.

However, hamstring issues have put the player, 33, out of contention for Arsenal’s games against Aston Villa, Tottenham and West Ham.

The club are targeting wins in these games with the race for the WSL title likely to run until the final day of the season.

And the Gunners are currently one point behind leaders Chelsea with the Blues playing Tottenham this evening.

Speaking to the club’s website, Heath said: “Although I’m disappointed that my time at Arsenal has come to an early end, I have loved every minute of my time here.

“Arsenal is a special Club and this is a special group of players.

“I have no doubt that they are bound for success in the near future and I’ll be supporting the team with the rest of the Arsenal family from now on.

"I would like to thank everyone at the Club who has made me feel so welcome.”

Heath is set to return home to the United States to continue her rehabilitation with her personal medical team.

Gunners boss Jonas Eidevall, 39, added: “It’s been a pleasure to work with Tobin this season.

“She has made an important contribution both on and off the pitch, with her mentality and character setting a great example to the entire group.

“We wish Tobin well for the future and look forward to seeing what comes next for her.”

Heath, who began her senior club career with US side New Jersey Wildcats, netted three times in 18 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions.

This includes two goals in nine WSL appearances for Eidevall’s title-chasers including a dramatic late equaliser away at Manchester City in January.

Prior to her Arsenal spell the two-time World Cup winner, who has 181 USA caps, spent a season at Manchester United.

She scored four times in eight appearances for the Red Devils helping the club to a fourth-place finish last term.

And Heath was voted the Barclays WSL player of the month in November of the 2020-21 season.
