Watch as classy Simone Biles is first person to congratulate ROC on Tokyo 2020 gold medal after pulling out of USA team

SIMONE BILES was the first person to congratulate the Russian Olympic Committee for their women's team win after she was forced to pull out.

The four-time gold medalist and stand-out global star in Rio 2016 withdrew after botching her vault in the opening round of the final.

Biles was replaced by team-mate Jordan Chiles on the bars, and is now a doubt for the rest of the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The British team made up of of 16-year-old twins Jessica and Jennifer Gadirova, Amelie Morgan and Alice Kinsella picked up the bronze medal – Team GB's first medal in the event for 93 years.

Team USA took silver, trailing the ROC by just three points.

And as the ROC team burst into tears celebrating the win, class act Biles was the first to go over and congratulate the team.

Biles' team-mates and coaches soon followed suit, hugging their competitors.

Biles, 24, was set to go for six gold medals at the Tokyo Games, and she was due to compete in Thursday’s all-round individual event – for which she was red-hot favourite – but that could come too soon.

A USA Gymnastics spokesman confirmed: “Simone has withdrawn from the team final competition due to a medical issue.

"She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions.”

Gymnastics fans have praised Biles for her good sportsmanship and branded her a "great champion".

One fan on Twitter said: "ROC win and the first person to congratulate them is Simone Biles. What a great champion! Great sportsmanship!

"But let no one tell you ROC didn't deserve this. They were the top qualifiers and were superb today as well. A few wobbles on the beam but otherwise so solid."

Whilst another added: "The way Simone Biles led the other Americans to hug the ROC team in congratulations after their win, that's big and really great sportsmanship.

"They are competitors but they're also fellow gymnasts and friends."
