Watch hilarious moment linesman 'tackles' player and leaves him on floor in agony in Palmeiras' Copa Libertadores clash | The Sun

FANS watching a huge cup clash were left in stitches when a linesman bizarrely tackled a player to the ground as he took a corner.

Palmeiras and Cerro Porteno faced off in the Copa Libertadores in Paraguay on Wednesday.

But after eight minutes into the Round of 16 first leg at the General Pablo Rojas stadium the assistant ref decided to make himself an internet sensation.

Palmeiras star Gustavo Scarpa went to take a corner kick down the left.

The official stepped aside to give Scarpa enough space to deliver the set piece.

However, he then made a tiny step to his right and blocked the forward from kicking the ball.

The Brazilian then accidentally tapped the back of the lineman's foot and fell on the ground in hilarious fashion.

The 28-year-old was evidently in some pain as he lied on the grass but thankfully managed to shake it off and continue.

However, that tiny blip didn't get in Palmeiras' way as they comfortably won 3-0 and turned the return fixture in Brazil into a formality.

Rony opened the scoring on the hour mark and completed a brace just nine minutes later.
