Wayne Mardle sends advice to ‘arguably best female player in the world’

Beau Greaves has emerged as one of the top prospects in darts after her stunning victory in the final of the WDF World Championships.

The 18-year-old from Doncaster whitewashed Kirsty Hutchinson 4-0 at the legendary Lakeside venue to anoint herself as one of the top names in the women’s game. Her victory earned praise from former PDC World Champion Gerwyn Price while Sky Sports darts expert Wayne Mardle has said “there's at least an argument for Beau Greaves to be called the best female player in the world right now”.

Greaves has already recorded victories over Fallon Sherrock and Lisa Ashton, who have both competed at the PDC World Championships at the Alexandra Palace. With the world seemingly at her feet, all eyes will now be on what Greaves decides to do next.

And in the view of Mardle, the teenager should be jettisoned into this summer’s Betfred Women’s World Matchplay.

“If I had any kind of clout I would be saying ‘get her into the [women’s] World Matchplay’ because she is more marketable than anyone,” he told Sky Sports.

Staged at Blackpool’s iconic Winter Gardens venue and comprising of eight players, it will be the PDC’s first televised women’s tournament. There will be a £25,000 prize fund while the winner of the event will land a place in the Cazoo Grand Slam of darts later this year when he will test herself against the likes of Peter Wright, Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price.

Mardle also mused about the future of Fallon and Ashton, saying: "I'm not sure where Fallon is going to play her darts and I'm not sure Lisa is going to do more Challenge Tour and online darts than the actual circuit, which is the WDF circuit. There is no one who can stop Beau on the WDF circuit."

"Do Fallon and Lisa stay away from the WDF? And if they do I can't see Beau Greaves not winning four or five titles. I think it will be an upset if she actually gets beat.

"I think it's all about the competition for her. She's already beaten Lisa and Fallon in BDO ranked finals. It's not like she can't beat them and the way she throws there's never been a woman on the planet that has a better throwing action than Beau Greaves."
